Today, Boeing announced that European Airline Alliance Air France-KLM has placed an order for 25 787 Dreamliners. The alliance will wait for the future 787-9 model instead of the 787-8 (the launch model). The 787-9 is a little bit larger, capable of carrying up to 290 passengers with a range of 8500 nautical miles. Air France-KLM has options to purchase 25 additional models. KLM (Royal Dutch Airlines) will take delivery first and plans to put the Dreamliner into service starting in 2016. Air France hasn’t announced exactly when they will take delivery but it will be sometime after the Dutch carrier. The alliance also plans to order several of Airbus’ new a350 but hasn’t finalized the deal. Air France currently operates Airbus’ super jumbo a380 on International Routes.

The 787-9 is forecasted to cost about $200 million a piece meaning the value of this sale will be at least $5 billion and up to $10 billion if Air France-KLM accepts all 25 options.
